The RadioShack Lycra Swift Gloves strike a perfect chord if you like the sound of a no-nonsense racing glove. They have a thin layer of padding that covers the palms -- just enough to add comfort, not so much to feel like a glove designed for casual riders. They are a welcome respite from the current trend towards gel pads in weird places that may work for tourists on flat bars, but not for racing cyclists using drops.
Nike uses Moxie Lycra for a stretchy, snug fit across the backs of the hands. There's no need for bulky velcro straps because the fit is so good -- just pull them on and go ride. And when you wipe the sweat from your face, you won't have to deal with the offenses of the scratchy closure. Terry cloth covers the thumb and the palm has dimpled grippers to keep you on the bars no matter how sweaty it gets or how hard it rains when you're out on the road.
