Rock n Roll Lubes are formulated to clean and lube at the same time when applied. The formulation is specially designed to go deep down into the chain and trap any dirt. Then, with the energy of the chain freewheeling backwards, and the formulation trapping the dirt and grit, everything floats to the surface so you can wipe it all off. That leaves you with a new and clean application of lube inside the chain where it’s needed. The lube also creates a protective membrane, which keeps dirt out of the moving parts of the chain. All of this will help to increase chain life, give you super smooth shifting and smoother pedaling.
Because road bikes tend to pick up more dirt through static electricity than MTB’s they actually need a thicker and dryer membrane to protect the chain. On the other hand, road bikes also tend to pick up less dirt and mud from particles kicked up in the air by tires etc, and therefore don’t need to be self cleaning. That is where Rock n Roll Absolute Dry comes in. The lube doesn’t self clean, it simply doesn’t pick up dirt. It’s awesome on road bikes! The same properties that allow it to do this also mean that it washes off relatively easily and won’t self clean if mud or dust were sprayed over it, so it is not recommended for MTB’s.
